Keep Your Teeth Healthy with Gentle and Effective Gum Disease Treatment
Gum disease is an infection and inflammation of the gums that can have serious consequences for a person’s oral health and overall health. Gum disease can lead to bone loss and eventual tooth loss. When properly treated, gum disease can be eliminated or effectively controlled, saving or extending the life of your teeth.
Knowledgeable, Experienced Gum Disease Treatment
Dr. Sanger has specialist training in the treatment of gum disease. She is not only able to effectively treat the disease, but she can also repair most damage that the disease may have caused. She is also a specialist in oral medicine, which gives her a comprehensive understanding of a patient's oral health. As a result, she can treat even the most complex and difficult cases, for example, patients with diabetes, smokers and patients who are on medications.
Dr. Sanger is very accurate at diagnosing and treating gum disease. She knows how to get to the bottom of the problem and fix it.
Conservative, Comfortable and Minimally Invasive Methods
Dr. Sanger and our hygienists use conservative and minimally invasive methods to treat gum disease, starting with expert deep cleanings. For most patients with gingivitis and mild periodontitis, this takes care of the gum disease. Even patients with more severe periodontitis can benefit from our skilled deep cleanings. For patients requiring surgery, Dr. Sanger uses very minimally invasive techniques that cause little to no post-treatment discomfort.
The Dangers of Gum Disease
As gum disease progresses, it causes more and more damage to gum and bone tissue and can cause teeth to fall out. In addition to wreaking havoc with a person’s oral health, research has shown that gum disease also produces an increased risk for specific systemic diseases—including heart disease, diabetes and certain types of cancer. With proper treatment, gum health can be restored to help lower your risk.

Expert Deep Cleanings
We provide treatment for any level of gum disease. The first step is a thorough exam and evaluation followed by an exact treatment plan. If the gum disease is mild to moderate, our highly skilled hygienists will take care of it with expert deep cleanings under Dr. Sanger's supervision. Dr. Sanger personally trained all our hygienists and continues to train them on the latest and best practices. They have been with us for many years and have experience in every type of case.
We use modern ultrasonic scalers to provide gentle, effective cleanings and deep cleanings. Ultrasonic scalers are more comfortable and are gentler on the teeth.
Our hygienists additionally take the time to educate you in the best home oral care practices, including showing you how to properly brush and floss. You'll also get a free toothbrush that is designed to effectively clean your teeth as well as other tools to keep your teeth free of plaque.
Minimally Invasive Procedures for Severe Gum Disease
If gum disease has progressed to the point it is infecting the bone and causing bone loss, surgery could be needed to regenerate and reshape gum or bone tissue to make the affected areas easy to clean, and difficult for harmful bacteria to lodge on. In addition to her periodontal training, Dr. Sanger has completed advanced training in the latest in minimally invasive treatments, such as slow injections with topical anesthesia, micro instruments to make tiny incisions and tunnels, and special growth factors to speed healing. At the end of her surgery, the tissues go back into place and post-surgical discomfort is either non-existent or negligible.
When needed, Dr. Sanger uses tissue grafting and bone regeneration techniques to help you recover the structure of your gums and jaw, and your oral health.
